Air Conditioning Mechanic A

Function
Operate and maintain air conditioning and refrigeration equipment in an industrial plant.
Major Duties
The following requirements are in addition to those specified for Air Condition Mechanic B;
- Perform
continuous inspections of air conditioning, heating, ventilating,
refrigerating components such as, blowers, compressors, heaters,
ventilating stacks, shutters, flues, thermostats and temperature
records to ensure proper functioning of systems; diagnose malfunctions
and make repairs, including electrical as required.
- Check
functioning of automatic controls and safety valves. Using gages,
determine and make necessary adjustments for air and refrigerant
pressures. Investigate complaints of abnormal temperatures and take
corrective action.
- Repair
improperly functioning equipment by regulating speeds, adjusting valves
and gages, changing oil and drive belts, replacing packing and parts
such as compressor pistons, worn refrigeration unit fittings and
similar operations.
Give
instructions to lower-rated employees or employees on temporary
assignment designated to assist in the performance of above work.
Training and Experience
Typically acquired through high
school or vocational school training and three (3) to four (4) years of
air conditioning mechanic experience, or equivalent.
Perform standard maintenance checks and repairs on air conditioning refrigeration equipment in an industrial plant.
Major Duties
- Perform
scheduled and emergency checks of air conditioning, heating,
ventilating, refrigerating units for proper operation; report
malfunctions.
- Disassemble
heat and air conditioning unit components as directed, and remove
window units; adjust heat unit motors; check condition of belts
tension, pulleys, compressors, air filters and similar items; clean,
repair, replace, lubricate as required.
- Assist
higher graded mechanics in the same occupation; or assist maintenance
men in other occupations when no high priority air conditioning work is
to be done.
- Maintain records such as temperatures, service schedules and calls, replacements.
- Use all materials, tools, equipment and instruments necessary in the performance of the above duties.
Perform
all work in accordance with specifications, other specified documents
or oral instructions and in conformance with Company standards of
safety, workmanship, and good housekeeping practice.
Training and Experience
Typically acquired through high
school or vocational training and one (1) to two (2) years experience
as air conditioning mechanic or equivalent.

Aircraft Assembler

In accordance with the
agreement between the Company and the Union during the 1983
negotiations and effective on the date of the new agreement, the
classifications "Final Assembly Mechanic B", "Assembler Mechanical B",
and "Final Assembler Electrician B" have been combined under the
classification title "Aircraft Assembler".
All of the functions and duties of
the three (3) classifications as identified in the attached job
descriptions shall be performed by employees holding the job
title "Aircraft Assembler".

Final Assembly Mechanic B

Function
Make Final assembly installations of the mechanical systems of aircraft.
Major Duties
- Install components of mechanical systems in airframes and perform dismantling operations, as directed.
- Install
components or systems relatively simple in attachment such as
heating ducts, pilot systems, engine oil tank, hydraulic and similar
plumbing, drive shafts, flooring, control cables, and pulleys, bell
cranks and guadrants; seats, nose enclosure, and braces, brackets and
clips for fasting, hanging or supporting installations.
- Install and wire portions of radio systems, as diorected.
- Make
repairs, adjustments, replacements and engineering changes of the level
of difficulty outline above. May test units or small sections of
complete systems.

Assembler Mechanical B

Function
Construct from detail parts, sub-assemblies used to build major mechanical assemblies.
Material, Equipment, Tools
Detail parts, hardware, adhesives,
lubricants; jigs and tools, balancing machine, cable swager, riveting
equipment, torque wrenches, measuring devices; hand tools.
Major Duties
- Using detail prints and portions of assembly prints to determine correctness of parts and procedures to follow.
- Perform such
operations as sub-assembli of quadrants, bellcranks, control rods and
cable; drill and ream holes; pressing and staking bearings and bushing;
swaging terminals to cables; check clearances of moving parts.
- Build up rotor
hub sub-assmblies of other major mechanical assemblies; uncrate and
position engine for mounting; install and adjust standard parts on
engine for drive shafting including bearing houdings, riveting and
checking run-out; balance drive shaft; install segments of lubrication
and hydraulic systems and electrical harness; assemble landing gear;
assemble and pressure test tanks; service sub-assemblies.
Knowledge and Ability Required
Working knowledge of the build-up of
mechanical sub-assemblies from detail parts including use of detail
drawings and portions of assembly prints, specifications and shop
orders; use of measuring instruments such as micrometers,
calipers; use of hand tools and departmental equipment; use of
shop arithmetic.
Normally acquired through two (2)
years of high school shop or vocational school plus twelve (12) to
eighteen (18) months experience in the assembly of mechanical parts
preferably in the aircraft industry.

Final Assembly Electrician B

Function
Make final assembly installations of aircraft electrical and radio systems.
Major Duties
- Install components of electrical systems in airframes. May receive assistance on difficult installations.

equipment and assist in functional check when required.

Aircraft Sealant Controler

Function
Control storage, mixing and dispensing of sealants, and associated materials.
Major Duties
- Maintain specified stocks of sealing compounds,
adhesives, cements, filler compounds and associated chemicals,
properly stored and label according to existing specifications and
regulations.
- Select, weigh and mix aircraft sealing compounds,
maintaining exact quantities of constituents and utilizing proper
mixing techniques, mixing times and temperature.
- Issue sealant, solvents, supplies, sealing tools
and related supplies and materials. Check materials requested for
compatibility in accordance with existing specifications and for
correctness in relation to their intended application.
- Clean and store sealing tools and equipment. Load and label sealant cartridges. File and issue sealing prints.

Major Duties
The following requirements are in addition to those specified for Assembler Sheetmetal B:
- Perfrom layout procedures to determine any location, as required.
- Determine installation and assembly sequence and
methods, which are not otherwise identified, for a wide varity of
airframe structures; make intial assembly involving new tooling to
prove assembly or installation procedures.
- Align and splice the major sections of the airframe and line ream mating holes as required.
- Align, install and check such any airframe
accessory and structural parts and assemblies such as pulley brackets,
frames, bulkheads, longerons and fairings where fit and alignment are
essential.
- Perform required rework.
- Check completed work.
- Give instruction to lower-rated employees or
employees on temporary assignment designated to assist in the
performance of Assembler Sheetmetal work.
Training and Experience
Through knowledge of the build-up of airframe including use of

Function
Assemble sheetmetal components and sub-assemblies. Build-up airframe
sections by assembling and installing sheetmetal (or other material)
parts and assemblies.
Major Duties
- Assemble airframe structures where tools, parts and
procedures have been proven and where locations are determined by
mechanical means or by direct measurements from fixed reference points.
- Check fit, nesting, clearance, positioning and
protective finish of parts prior to permanent installation or assembly;
file or trim parts as necessary.
- May layout rivet patterns as necessary.
- Perform all operations required to install types of
rivets, patented fasteners and to perform bolting or other fastenings
procedures as specified.
- Perform rework which does not exceed the level of difficulty of work normally performed.

by employees classified "Assembler Sheetmetal B".
Riveter A
Function
Assemble and/or install sheetmetal or other components and sub-assemblies by riveting.
Major Duties
The following requirements are in addition to those specified for Riveter B:
- Use fixtures, templates, production drawings
or other source data and assemble or install in airframe, by riveting
or using patented fastening devices, perform sheetmetal or other parts.
May layout rivet patterns using production drawings.
- Assemble components with or without
fixtures; check alignment, fit, nesting, clearance, protective
finishing, etc., prior to permanent assembling.
- Select equipment, and rivets as specified
and perform any type of aircraft riveting. Work independently or in
teams as required by type of riveting.

Load, unload and operate all automotive necessary in transportation and facilities maintenance functions
Major Duties
- Operate such typical equipment as trucks,
tractor-trailers (26,000 lbs. gross wt. or less) fork lift trucks,
towmotors, tractors, other powered and hand operated material handling
equipment and hoists, as assigned to move material handling assemblies,
tools, equipment, scrap and trash from and to designated locations,
within plants, between plants, and to and from any outside location;
obtain or release necessary receiving and shipping papers.
- Load and unload cargo on Company owned or operated,
vendor and common or contract carrier trucks; secure and protect cargo
in accordance with applicable Company, State and Interstate regulations.
- Load, secure and unload cargo from trackless
trains or pellets; check route tags or other written instructions;
contact other employees to delivers or receive cargo messages as
required.
- Operate tractor for snow removal, grass cutting,
grading and similar operations; use line marking equipment to designate
traffic lanes in parking lots or inside plant.
- Operate power sweeper through specified areas to be cleaned; empty refuse container as necessary.
- Prior to operating automotive equipment, preform
operator maintenance procedures such as checking and correcting fuel,
lubricant, coolant and battery water levels; checking tires lights,
general operation ans obtaining repairs as necessary; maintain logs and
other records as required. Change wheels, except dual type,as required.

Truck Driver
TRUCK DRIVER

Function
Drive truck and/or trailer of 26,000 lbs. gross weight or under, to
transport general cargo, aircraft, aircraft parts, plant equipment and
tooling between Company plants and to vendor plants, including
interstate trips.
Major Duties
- Load truck; drive to assigned destinations; unload;
obtain delivery or shipping documents; reload as required; return to
home plant and unload. Assume responsibility for proper loading,
securing and protection of cargo in accordance with applicable state
and interstate truck regulations, safety, and required condition of
cargo at distination.
- Drive truck pulling trailer to transport aircraft on short hauls, usually interplant. Make interstate trips as required.
- Check and/or refill such item as truck's fuel and
oil levels, tires, cooling system and battery water levels, lights,
etc. Change wheels (except duel type) as required.
- Maintain records of mileage, stops made, fuel consumption, etc.

plant buildings and grounds as directed; operate controls to raise and

- Deliver and pick up such intra-plant items as
materials, parts, and small assemblies, scrap, tools according to
verbal or written instructions of dispatcher.
- Load, secure, unload cargo on or from trackless
trains or pallets; check route tags or written instructions; contact
other employees to deliver or receive cargo or messages as required.

Major Duties
- Operate power sweeper within plant and on areas outside plants.
- May operate towing tug to move train of scrap
barrels from plant to salvage area and return. May use fork truck to
move scrap barrels from plant to salvage area and return.
- Check fuel supply, and steering mechanism for
functional operation; actuate rotary brushes and drive sweeper through
area to be cleaned; empty built-in refuse container as necessary.
- Make periodic check of machine for lubrication, fueling, defective parts; advise responsible personnel of required repairs.
- Normally perform power sweeper operations on a
full-time basis; may operate fork truck or towing tug for duties
related to maintenance cleaning. Perform duties of janitor when no

- Press in place (or remove) wheels, gears, spacers,
journal bearings, brake discs, grounding rings and related parts on
axles or shafts; perform necessary alignment procedures and select
spacer and sleeves to locate parts to specifications; mix and apply
lubricants as necessary; record data as directed for Company and
Customer Quality Control.
- Shrink fit parts to specified locations; assemble
bearings and shrink or press in place; adjust all clearance and
positions as necessary.
- Bench assemble a variety of parts to build up such
typical sub-assemblies as gear housing, bearings, mechanical linkages
and structural and systems sub-assemblies.
- Perform such typical hand operations as bolting,
drilling, reaming, taping, grinding, filing, polishing, heating with
torch or oven, priming or sealing prior to assembly, lubricating and
identifying or steel stenciling.
- Use all materials, tools, equipment necessary in the performance of the above.
- Perform all work in accordance with prints,
specifications, other specified documents or oral instructions and in
conformance with Company standards of safety, workmanship and good
house keeping practice.
- May assist other rail car employees when no axle or truck assembly work is to be done.
- May Familiarize other employees with work assignments within the scope of the above duties.
