Bonus Pay Date

November 2, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Company has notified the Union that your newly negotiated bonus checks in the amount of $3500.00 will be included in your November 5th, 2009 paycheck.  The bonus will be taxed separately but will be combined into the same check as your regular pay.  Members should also see all general wage increases along with any upgrades and one time payments negotiated for you, incorporated into the same check.  You can log into total access now to view your work history and your new pay rates.  Any questions or problems please see your shop steward as soon as possible to have them addressed.

All employees on the active payroll on the day of ratification or on an approved leave of absence for 90 days or less is eligible to receive the bonus.

Keep in mind as the year comes to a close that we still have an opportunity to increase our other union won bonus, the Philadelphia Performance Incentive.  The plan is currently at 7 days pay.  The membership is doing an absolutely outstanding job in the quality and safety metrics used to determine this payout.  Let’s do our best to see if we can’t do a little more so everyone can benefit with a few more days of pay.  You can keep track of the plan’s progress on the electronic information monitors throughout the plant.  The payout for this plan is scheduled for February 2010.

It appears as though Boeing Company Chairman and CEO Jim McNerney toured our facility late in the day October 29, 2009, for the first time since he came to Boeing in 2005.  I use the word appears because no one was officially notified here at the hall but more importantly the very workers who are responsible for the aircraft we manufacture were not given the courtesy to be aware that he was coming in.  I find it hard to understand why someone of his importance would come here unannounced.  Shouldn’t there be some interaction with his workforce?  Did he not want to hear from the membership or did our management not want him to hear from you?  This is not the way to build trust between the parties after two months of bargaining.

On another note, there are still hundreds of pallets of wood behind the hall gathered by the strike committee.  There are also a few burn barrels as well.  Please feel free to help yourself to as much of it as you would like.

Please remember to give generously on November 5th & 6th as our Community Services Committee will be at gate entrances collecting for our yearly Thanksgiving Gate Collection.

CONTRACT RATIFIED

OCTOBER 20, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Sunday October 18th, 2009, the membership ratified our new 5 year Collective Bargaining Agreement by an overwhelming 80%.  The vote tally was 1149 to accept and 228 to reject with 17 void.  Your entire Union Leadership would like to thank all who came out Sunday and looks forward to working with every member to better understand the long term economic benefits and security this contract provides.

There were two items mistakenly omitted in the highlight brochure that need to be mentioned.  One is a new 90 day probationary period for employees hired after 1/1/2010.  The 90 day period replaces the current 60 day period which will expire at the end of this year.  The new 90 day term will not affect anyone presently in their probationary period.

The second issue is the company’s elimination of the 6 hour overtime shift on weekends.  Since the 6 hour shift is no longer part of our contract the Union proposed a new letter of understanding that was accepted by the company.  The letter in effect states that all employees must maintain their normally scheduled work times on the weekend or holiday and if asked to work on the weekend/holiday will be charged the applicable rate for a full eight hour shift.  In the event you are given permission to come in earlier than your normally scheduled shift those hours before your shift will be added to your hours charged.  Should you also have permission to leave prior to the end of your normally scheduled shift you will NOT be charged an infraction.  You will however still be charged a full day for the purpose of overtime record keeping.

Example; Employee asked to work Saturday will be charged 12 hours.  Should the employee be given permission by his supervisor to come in 2 hours early those 2 hours will be charged at the applicable rate and added to the 12 hours he/she was already asked to work.  Should the employee be permitted to leave at 10:00 a.m. no infraction will be charged but employee will still be charged for the full day plus the 2 hours he/she was permitted to work early.   This is no way reduces or eliminates any other shift’s demand right to overtime nor is meant to circumvent the grievance procedure.  It is simply language to allow managers and employees to have flexibility where and when it is deemed beneficial to both parties.

This Sunday, October 25th, our monthly membership meeting will be held as scheduled at 10:00 a.m.  Please bring any questions you might have regarding our new agreement.

CONTRACT UPDATE

October 2, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The company has finally given your bargaining team their proposal.  Your Union Leadership is reviewing this offer in its entirety.  The offer is completely unacceptable.  There are no other words or descriptions necessary.  It is evident that your employer is unwilling to recognize your hard work and dedication with equity.

This offer fails to meet even your most basic and fundamental needs.  It further attacks new hires and attempts to split our membership yet again.  It is so insulting that the company won't consider posting it.

The following is only a handful of issues under attack; defined pension plans, point of use, the labor pool, job combinations affecting more than over 20 job classifications, Seniority-Increase-Step progression, health and medical benefits, overtime and breaks.

The Union is reviewing and preparing a counter to this offer and has issued the mandatory 10 day notice to the company terminating the current agreement at midnight October 12th, 2009.

All of you will begin receiving strike duty assignments in the mail in the next few days.  Your assignment will be written on the card with a gate and time designation.  In the event of a strike mass picketing will begin immediately on day 1 and your assignment day will start after that.  In order to be eligible for strike pay and benefits you must complete your assigned duty.

On the back of this chopper is a map showing all of the gates with corresponding numbers so that you can identify your assigned location.

While your Union Leadership is disheartened by this latest turn of events it serves as a reminder that only our Unity and Solidarity can win the day.  Your Bargaining Team will not waver in the face of this offer but work around the clock to obtain a contract that satisfies our member's needs.

STAY UNITED

Monthly Membership Meeting

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This Sunday, September 27th, our monthly membership meeting will be held as scheduled at the Union Hall. Meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m.

I'm sure that many of you have questions concerning negotiations but it is entirely to early and not in the best interest of our members to begin talking specifics outside of the main table discussions currently being held.

Your bargaining team will try to answer as many questions as possible on Sunday but please keep in mind that negotiations are ongoing and at the time of this chopper no economic proposal has been submitted by the company for the Union's review.

On another note, effective September 30th 2009 all members on the active payroll who have had a portion of their cost living allowance diverted to offset an increase in health and insurance expenses will have those COLA increases folded into their base rate.

If you were on the active payroll for the duration of this current agreement you will see an increase of .22 cents.  In the event you were hired sometime during the lifetime of this contract you will receive an increase equal to the amount withheld which is specified in Letter of Understanding #49. Those amounts are as follows; .06 cents in year 1, .06 cents in September 2006, .05 cents in  September 2007 and .05 cents in September 2008.

Should you have any questions please see your steward and together you can review your work history to address your concerns.

STRIKE AUTHORIZATION TOTALS

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Incredible! An absolutely incredible display of solidarity and support for your Bargaining Team.

Thursday's turnout for the Strike Authorization Vote could not have been a bigger success.  Look at the numbers!

1348 Yes votes Authorizing a Strike
17 No votes
4 Void ballots
1369 Total Ballots Cast

98.8 % of those members who voted gave authority to their bargaining team to strike if necessary.  That is the highest percentage ratio ever achieved for an authorization vote in the 53 year history of UAW Local 1069.

Over 76% of the local membership turned out to vote. That ratio represents the highest turnout in our history as well.

You have spoken and nobody can ignore your voice. This membership is not happy with the treatment they have received from the Boeing Company and changes must take place.

Your Leadership Team could not be happier with the message you have sent.  The members once again have answered the call to unity.  You have demonstrated the meaning of brotherhood.

The road ahead will be long and hard but you have given us the strength and resolve to get the job done.

Strike Authorization

August 11, 2009

            Thursday, August 20th 2009

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

On Thursday, August 20th from 5:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. the Strike Authorization Vote will be held at your Union Hall. I strongly urge all members to do their best to make it down to vote even if it means taking a few minutes out of your day.

Your Bargaining Team will be present at the hall for the entire day to answer any questions you have and to go over or explain any of our proposals.

A strong and overwhelming turnout in favor of the Strike Authorization Vote is perhaps the most powerful tool the members can give to their bargaining team.  That vote coupled with your solidarity in the ranks will help to secure the fair and equitqble contract you deserve.

Should you have any questions about the purpose and need of the Strike Authorization process please see your Committemen or Shop Stewards. In order to be eligible to receive strike benefits from the UAW International this vote must be held.  Otherwise if a strike is needed and authorization is not giving by the members then we will not be eligible to receive strike pay or medical benefits.

Finally, as we kick off our negotiations let's start off with a display of unity by wearing our UAW t-shirts this Friday, August 14th. Every shirt that is worn is another sign that all of our members are willing and prepared for the long fight ahead.  In addition to the 14th your bargaining team is also recommending that you wear your t-shirts again on the 20th for the Strike Authrization.  This again will signify a united and determined workforce proud to be UAW Local 1069 members.

Negotiations Kickoff

August 4, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

While the Company and Union have been meeting informally for some time we have mutually agreed to officially begin negotiations on Friday, August 14th, 2009.

At this time both parties will exchange initial proposals. These first proposals will deal solely with non-economic issues, which means that issues such as wage increases, bonuses, health benefits etc., will not be discussed until later in the process.

So that all members are aware, your bargaining team after months and months of deliberation and hard work will be working full-time off-site until an agreement is reached.  Therefore, during the next couple of months the eyes and ears of your union leadership in the plant will be your shop stewards.  Any and all problems should be directed to your steward as soon as possible.  The stewards will be in contact with your bargaining team alerting them of any immediate concerns.

Your bargaining team expects a spirited and intense set of negotiations. Regardless of the tone of these negotiations we are focused on addressing the needs of all our members and will accept nothing less.

Your solidarity, support and unity are the key to our success.

In Solidarity,

Anthony J. Forte, President
